Belarusian clubs eliminated from CEV Challenge Cup

Minsk’s Sports Palace hosted yesterday two games of the CEV Challenge Cup last 32 featuring Belarusian men and women’s clubs.

VC Minchanka, after the away win in Germany 3-2, were to face Wiesbaden in the return match. The Minsk club made lots of mistakes and were trailing 1-2 before finally winning a set and restoring intrigue. However, Wiesbaden were much better that day and defeated Minchanka 3-1 to enter the next round of the Challenge Cup.

Right after that, VC Stroitel Minsk hosted Turkey’s Istanbul after the away loss in the first leg. Stroitel lost the first set and had no right for mistake in this match. The Minsk team, coached by Alexander Singayevsky, upped pace and started playing absolutely different volleyball winning the next three sets to make it 3-1. The golden set should have decided the winner of the two-leg tie.

Istanbul did not have the best of starts in that golden set but then the Minsk club began to make mistakes and eventually lost the match and was eliminated from the Challenge Cup.
