Belarus, Vietnam presidents holding talks in Hanoi

The Belarusian president continues his state visit to Vietnam. Early in the morning, Alexander Lukashenko laid a wreath at the Monument of Fallen Heroes and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi.

At the moment, negotiations of Alexander Lukashenko with his Vietnamese counterpart Trương Tấn Sang are underway. It is expected that after the meeting the leaders will sign a number of documents aimed at expanding bilateral relations.

The Belarusian President begun his state visit to Vietnam yesterday. Alexander Lukashenko arrived in Hanoi late in the evening.

On December 9, the whole Belarusian delegation headed by Alexander Lukashenko will have a day of intense talks.

Several rounds of negotiations will be held with key figures in the leadership of Vietnam. Apart from the meeting with the president, these will be meetings with the country's prime minister as well as with the Secretary General of the Communist Party. The latter still plays an important role in the life of the country.

Vietnam is a big market, 90 million people, and for Belarus it is the gateway to ASEAN - the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Yesterday the business communities of Belarus and Vietnam met signing a contract portfolio worth $25 million. Key agreements pertain to cooperation in industry.

Valery Sadokho, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam:
Vietnam is Belarus' important trade and economic partner. We signed a large number of contracts. Especially with regard to supplies of Belarusian MAZ and BelAZ trucks, tractors, buses and, of course, fertilizers. But we now have some new interesting items: alcoholic beverages and medicines. This is the first time we have entered this market and this year the amount is half a million dollars. I think that there may well be more Belarusian goods in the Vietnamese market.

Agreements have been reached on the supply to Vietnam of Belarusian tractors, trucks, dump trucks and fertilizers. It was decided to establish in Vietnam the production of Belarusian buses.
