Champions League main trophy in FC BATE Borisov's hometown

On November 20, BATE Borisov will play their last 16 game of the Belarus football cup against modest club Granit from Mikashevichi. This game would hardly attract much attention, if not for one fact. The real Champions League trophy will be put on display before that match in Borisov. On 19 November, the trophy traveled to the major Borisov plant with the same name BATE.

BATE workers and football fans could touch the cup and make a selfie with it. Some fans told the CTV they believe BATE would once win the Champions Cup and bring it to Belarus for the entire year.

In order to get this cup permanently, a club needs to win the Champions League three times in a row or five times in total. As of 2015, only six teams boast such achievements: Real Madrid, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Milan, Liverpool and Barcelona.

FC BATE Borisov is taking part in the Champions League for the fifth time. For now the Borisov side are fourth in their group but still have quite good chances for second or third place, which will guarantee "European spring" in 2016 either in the Champions League or in the Europa League. BATE have never qualified for the Champions League playoff from the group stage.
