Belarus President notes need to combat shadow economy

The Belarus President has set a task to the Committee of State Security to rigidly suppress the activities in the shadow economy, including to punish complicit officials. October 20 Alexander Lukashenko met with KGB Chairman Valery Vakulchik.

As was reported to the President, this work has already begun. In particular, on October 19, 13 persons were arrested in Brest for organizing such activities. These are the largest suppliers of products for the agricultural sector.

Using more than 40 controlled companies, the organizers took abroad currency. These people are suspected of tax evasion and selling of products to the end user three times more expensively. Some 48 raids took place, with a total of over $2 million arrested or seized.
