Football coach Anatoly Baydachny and head of the Belarusian version of the international project Tribuna.com Maxim Berezinski answer the questions of the TV program Sports Week on the CTV.
What do you think about the upcoming match BATE v Barcelona?
I think that BATE will try to fight. First, the against Roma showed it. If Barcelona treats this match as an easy walk, then they may face serious trouble.
BATE can do it if everything is in place, if they are at the top of their shape and if Barcelona does not see serious opponents in them.
Our last match against FYR Macedonia. 90 minutes and 0-0. Thus, in the standings, we took fourth place. Anatoly, is it the place we deserve?
Seriously speaking, yes. This is our place, because the first three teams are stronger than our team. And throughout the tournament, they were stronger. I think fourth place is ours.
You do not think that the problem of this team is that it has no charisma, no leader? Previously, Gennady Tumilovich and Khatskevich were on the field.
The real team leader was Kulchiy. From purely human qualities he was a leader, believe me. He never raised his voice, one could not hear a loud phrase calling for a victory, come what may. He came out on the field and proved with his game how to play. You know, I'm very happy that he is now working in the team.
And where do we get a leader?
And why is he needed?
For people to come to the stadium, for fans.
A team should be the leader. All 11 people on the pitch, coaches and the reserve - they must be infected with the same idea - to win. Here we will get results. One leader will never do anything. Second, a national team is a squad who get together for a short time. And each comes in a different state. And it is players who must set themselves a goal to arrive in perfect condition. Here then we will get a team and at the same time a collective leader. Now our players are of such a level that only a team together can be a leader. And if that happens, the team can 1achieve results. When I was a coach no one voiced a task. Yes, to make some noise in Europe, to play well. All this is unreal. The Federation and general public should set a task. When the task is in place, everyone will work towards it and the result will come.
Do you think that Khatskevich will succeed?
We always have such a situation: we don't have players or a group is difficult or something else. Lots of problems. Now we are in a transition period, there are no leaders. Khatskevich did well but I don't think he would achieve something, I mean the World Cup Finals. We have nothing left to do but to cheer and believe. Should we be waiting for the next qualifying cycle? We will not get anything with such an approach.
Most importantly, we must help Khatskevich. First of all journalists. Not destroy when something does not work but help with good advice and good support. Help him and the team. But again I say: seek and set goals.
BATE Borisov became Belarus' champions this week. This is their 12th title, and 10th in a row. Anatoly, is BATE really the strongest club of Belarus?
Without a doubt. 10-time consecutive champions.
I think this music will be eternal. Don't you have this impression?
While they have Kapsky, they will be champions.
Is the reason that there is no competition or are BATE so strong?
BATE's organization of the club is higher than that of other teams.
Where should the Belarusian championship get stars?
We can't buy it and not just because they cost much money, but because no star will come to Belarus to play. No self-respecting footballer of a good level will not come to play in the Belarusian championship because of its poor quality. Low quality stadiums, low attendance and so on. This star would just lose skills. Therefore, we need to raise our own championship thanks to the training process. I once paid attention to these girls, dancers. They train 10 hours a day which is why our ballet is among the best in the world. The same goes for football. If we do not work three times a day, if we don't try really hard, there will be no stars, no football, no nothing.
Maxim, 16 teams will be playing in the Belarusian championship next season. Will it be more interesting?
Nothing will change. The clubs will not be able to greatly increase the budgets because there's no money in the country. As the examples show nothing serious will happen with the teams who enter the Highest League. There will just be more teams. Maybe some of them will present a sensation and it will be a little more interesting. In fact, it is all sad and let's hope for the best.
