Belarus detains 550 trespassers of border with EU since January 2015

Since early 2015, Belarus has arrested 550 violators of border with the EU. The State Border Committee of Belarus notes that the main burden falls on the Baltic region, where the number of curbed violation attempts soared almost 2.5 times.

The majority of violators are migrants from Vietnam, Georgia and Afghanistan. Also, representatives of India, Iraq, Pakistan and Syria increasingly often try to cross the Belarus-EU border illegally. The border with Latvia is of particular interest among violators too.

Cross-border criminal groups from Russia and countries that are sources of refugees attempt to organize stable channels of illegal migration.
