Honorary Consul of France presents Brest with Jacob Balgley’s pictures

On September 28, the Museum of Brest City History was enriched with two unique exhibits - the original paintings of the famous French artist Jacob Balgley born in Brest-Litovsk.

The paintings were presented by the Honorary Consul of France in Belarus Leonid Staetsky. He specially bought them at his own expense to return the works of art to their homeland. It is the first time the original works of the artist have been presented in Brest. Mainly, the originals are exhibited in France.

Leonid Staetsky, Honorary Consul of France in Brest:
These works were kept in a family. I think we were just lucky. Our cultures are similar and I want, so to say, to link Brest and Paris.

Alexander Rogachuk, Chairman of the Brest City Executive Committee:
It's a great precedent - the return of the works of art of those people who left their huge cultural heritage all over the world. I’m very pleased that the city will now have such wonderful pictures. I think this is a beginning. The beginning of a long journey of returning real masterpieces to our city Brest.
