Direct contacts with Russian companies is the basis of trade-economic cooperation between Belarus and Russia, noted President Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting with the governor of the Ulyanovsk region. This meeting is a continuation of a recent conversation, which began at a high level in Sochi.
Ulyanovsk region is a recognized leader in the Russian automobile and aircraft construction, expansion of the private sector and attraction of large investors. Nevertheless, since the beginning of 2015, Belarus' trade turnover with the Ulyanovsk region declined by almost 20 percent. And now it barely exceeds $100 million.
Despite the fact that this figure is comparable with the level of Belarus' trade with Austria, Hungary, Slovakia or Israel, the main purpose of the visit is to strengthen cooperation.
Among the priority areas is construction and agriculture. Belarus and the Ulyanovsk region do not hide mutual interest in in engineering, science and education.
The guests are going to visit our factories for the production of passenger vehicles and the famous Belarusian High-Tech Park. They will also hold talks with Belarusian government representatives. Tomorrow, businessmen of the two countries will hold talks in the framework of a joint business forum.
Representatives of the Ulyanovsk region, like all other official delegations, began their stay in Belarus with a ceremony to lay a wreath at the monument in Victory Square in central Minsk. This is a traditional ritual tribute to the heroism of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).
A minute's silence was observed in memory of those who seven decades ago did not return from the war. The anthems of the two countries were played and the Honor Guard marched.
