In the opening match of the qualifying tournament for the 2017 European U21 Championship, the Belarusian national football team won at home against Slovakia 1-0. The only goal came in the 39th minute thanks to Dinamo Minsk midfielder Yaroslav Yarotsky's effort.
Belarus play in qualifying group 8 together with Slovakia, the Netherlands, Cyprus and Turkey. On October 9, Belarus host Turkey and then travel to Cyprus for the October 13 tie.
The Netherlands earlier crushed Cyprus 4-0 at home to collect their first three points. Turkey have not played any matches yet.
