Gerard Depardieu: Belarus resembles Switzerland, but is a clean and more interesting country

Gerard Depardieu going to live in Belarus for some time. The famous French actor voiced this intention in an interview with Le Figaro TV Magazine.

Mr Depardieu wants to sell all property in France and live in Belarus. This passionate impulse came after the actor's short stay in Belarus in the summer this year. In late July, actor and businessman was shown several agricultural farms near Minsk and treated to pancakes and bacon with new potatoes. He was presented the national dress - an embroidered shirt and a straw hat.

One of the highlights of that trip was a meeting with President Alexander Lukashenko. The Belarus President showed the actor his residence and gave him a master class in hand-scything. Depardieu promised to come back to Belarus, with which he was undoubtedly impressed.

Gerard Depardieu, actor, director:
Belarus has made an extraordinary impression on me. Yes, it looks like Switzerland, but is cleaner and it is a more interesting country. I was surprised by the quality of life of Belarusians. I saw people and their homes. It is obvious that people are happy and proud of their country. Earlier I heard from the media about Belarus as a country where it is difficult to live, which is ruled by a dictator. However, when met with President Lukashenko, I was personally convinced of the opposite. And also, I am now convinced that such journalists are idiots because they are talking about Belarus in such a negative way.

Gerard Depardieu gave this interview to our television channel within the framework of the serial documentary project "I Travel Belarus." The project will be aired in the second half of September 2015.
