Belarusian surgeons create unique method of treatment of children's esophageal burns

Belarusian surgeons have discovered a unique method of treating burns of the esophagus. In general, experts call this problem one of the most pressing in children's surgery. Belarusian equipment and technology has become one of the best in the former Soviet space.

Christina received burns of the esophagus after a few sips of alkali.

Kristina Shpak:
I did not know what was in that bottle. I was four years old. I thought it was lemonade and drank it. First it was quite OK but then my mouth began to burn.

The consequences of the lemonade are scars in the esophagus, which are constantly narrowing. This leads to the fact that the child cannot eat normally.

Belarusian surgeons now use a unique technique: using a laser doctors "evaporate" scars. Thus they give children a chance for a new life.

The laser allowing for such operations was developed in Belarus. However, even the most modern lasers cannot sometimes solve the problem. The features of each child's organism is a significant factor.

Igor Sevkovsky, head of the department of emergency surgery of the National Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Surgery:
This technique is effective for unexpended esophageal stenosis up to 3-4 centimeters in length. Different children have different forms of scar tissue. Someone needs treatment every 3-4 weeks, someone comes to us every three months, six months or only once a year.

Belarusian pediatric surgeons have no rivals in the post-Soviet space.

Another breakthrough is the method of stepping transplant.

Alexander Svirsky, head of the department of pediatric surgery of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Surgery:
The treatment of post-burn narrowing of the esophagus is a major problem for surgeons not only in our country but around the world. We assist not only the residents of Belarus but also residents of Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

Particular attention is paid to prevention of diseases because the consequences of burns remind about themselves for the entire life.
