Mirnyi, Lopez into Citi Open round 2

Belarusian Max Mirnyi and Spain's Feliciano Lopez advanced to the second round of the ATP doubles tennis tournament Citi Open in Washington (the prize fund is $1.75 million).

In the first round, the Belarusian-Spanish tandem in two sets outplayed the hosts of the court, Americans S. Johnson / S. Querrey, 6:4, 7:6 (9). The latter received wild card. Mirnyi and Lopez will face Croat-Brazilian duo Ivan Dodig / Marcelo Melo, seeded second.

In his first round match these players defeated Raven Klaasen (South Africa) and Rajeev Ram (USA), also in two sets, 7:6 (1), 6:2.

Leading Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka (WTA No19) does not take part in the women's part of the tournament in Washington through a shoulder injury.  It is planned that Azarenka will come to court at a major tournament Rogers Cup in Toronto (Canada) with a prize pot of $2.38 million, which starts August 8.

The athlete has already held a training session in the Canadian city, which increases the likelihood of her participation in the games. Last year the Belarusian was eliminated in the quarterfinals at the same tournament. Back then she lost to future winner of the competition Pole Agnieszka Radwańska.
