New automatic border control system undergoing testing at National Airport Minsk

Border control in Belarus is being modernized. A new automated system is being tested at National Airport Minsk.

It is able to recognize a person's identity by comparing a photo in the passport and a photo taken by the camera. The so-called "electronic gate" automatically checks the person's documents for authenticity.

For the system is installed only in the departure zone. After the experiment has been completed, the new system will be installed in other places.

Dmitry Taranko, deputy head of the information technology of the State Border Committee of Belarus:
Passenger traffic at our airport is increasing at a rate of about 20% per year. Therefore, we have to consider various options for the use of modern equipment of border control. For now this is only the National Airport we want to use this system in. Then we will install it at checkpoints where we have heavy traffic. Later, one can expect to see such systems at road checkpoints.
