Team Belarus to take part in European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi

Belarus not long ago sent athletes to Azerbaijan, where they defended the honor of the country at the 1st European Games in Baku. On July 25, the younger national team went to Tbilisi. That city hosted the opening ceremony of the European Youth Festival.

Belarus is represented in six of the nine sports: swimming, gymnastics, tennis, athletics, cycling and judo.

Expectations are high but there is no pressure on the team.

Maxim Rizhenkov, First Vice-President of the NOC of Belarus:
You know that we can't torture kids with medal plans. Because there is nothing worse than forced training at that age. The main thing is that they show what they are capable of. They are prepared very good, believe me. And most importantly, that they gained invaluable experience in this kind of tournament, they showed themselves, the coaches see where we have room for improvement and where we will be able to win medals in adult sports.

For many of our athletes, this is the first serious competition. Nevertheless, the atmosphere in the team is excellent. The boys and girls realize that they will compete with the best athletes.

Maksim Ryzhenkov, first vice-president of National Olympic Committee of Belarus
