President Lukashenko presents Order of Friendship of Peoples to Azeri Prime Minister

Azerbaijan will make every effort to develop brotherly relations with Belarus. This was said by Alexander Lukashenko on July 23 at the meeting with the prime minister of Azerbaijan.

Alexander Lukashenko gave Artur Rasizade Order of Friendship of Peoples for his significant personal contribution to the development and strengthening of trade-economic and humanitarian ties between the two countries.

This state award is one more confirmation of the special merits in the development of foreign economic activity, strengthening of friendly relations between nations and peoples.

The bilateral dialogue between Belarus and Azerbaijan is really successful. The countries are strategic partners. In 2014, the turnover exceeded 330 million U.S. dollars.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, Artur Rasizade did a lot for the development of bilateral cooperation. He has been serving as prime minister for more than 10 years.

Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus President:
To award a person outside Belarus I need a consent from his or her head of state. So you can assume that it is our joint decision - of the Belarusian President and the President of Azerbaijan. You know that there is a political subtext in these awards. There are also advances, and so on. But when it comes to you, there are no advances, no political implications. Because you have done for our relationship probably more than any other citizen of Azerbaijan. Moreover, you were a friend of a friend of mine - Heydar Aliyev. I already told you, in spite of the great difference in our ages, we were very good friends, and I looked at him as some sort of superman, since my youth, when he was a member of the Politburo of our party. I treated him very well.  And today's head of Azerbaijan - Ilham, Heydar's son - is also a very friend of mine, we have very good relationship with him. No with every head of state do I have such good relationship. And everywhere, you, Mr Rasizade, made a significant contribution, from our personal relationship with the presidents to the relations between the peoples and nations.

Artur Rasizade, Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan:
The role of our leaders, your role, dear Mr Lukashenko is vital for our relations. We are proud of the relationships we have formed after gaining independence. If I go back in history a little bit, the Azerbaijani people always treated Belarus with a great sense of love, and you know it well. And we assure you that we will make every effort to ensure that those friendly and I would say fraternal relations between our countries and peoples become tighter and serve the well-being of our peoples.
