Normandy 4 leaders hold telephone talks on Ukraine

All agreements on Ukraine must be respected. The leaders of the Normandy Quartet reiterated the importance of the implementation of the Minsk agreements as of February 12. Angela Merkel, Vladimir Putin, Francois Hollande, and Petro Poroshenko held telephone talks.

As before, the emphasis was made on cessation of hostilities in the Donbas. Civilians there are still suffering: the city is virtually destroyed, there is no water and products cannot be delivered to those who need them most.

The Normandy Quartet also stressed the importance of dialogue between official Kyiv and the self-proclaimed republics in the contact group. It is the contact group that is now the link between peace and war in the east of Ukraine.

It is expected that the next trilateral meeting of the contact group will be held in Minsk on 21 July.

It will also be attend by OSCE Chairman and Foreign Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic.
