Max Mirnyi to play for Belarus against Turkey in Davis Cup

A Davis Cup draw was held in Istanbul to decide on the order of matches between Belarus and Turkey in Group II of the Euro-African zone.

On the first day of the competition on July 17, there will be held two singles matches. Egor Gerasimov (world No 327) plays with Marcel Ilhan (78) followed by the Dmitry Zhirmont (241) v Cem İlkel (438) match.

On Saturday, July 18, the doubles match, Sergei Betov together with Maxim Mirny will take on Baris Erguden and Anil Yuksel. Mirnyi, thirty-eight (38th in the doubles rankings), who has played for the national team since 20 and spent forty nine matches, substituted Yaroslav Shylo.

On Sunday, June 19, two more singles games are scheduled: Zhirmont v Ilhan and Gerasimov v Cem İlkel.

The winner of the Turkey v Belarus match will take on the winner of the Portugal v Finland tie. The loser will finish the tournament.

The national team of Turkey held 131 Davis Cup matches (61 wins and 69 losses) but never reached the World Group.

Belarusian tennis players spent four years in the top tennis division and have a positive balance of meetings +7. The aim of Vladimir Volchkov's charges is to enter Euro-African zone Group I of the Davis Cup, from which they were eliminated in 2010.

After the victory in the previous round over Ireland (5:0), the Belarusian team climbed one spot up in the world rankings and are now in 55th place. The Turks, who beat South Africans 3:2, are in 62nd.
