Separate lanes for public transport in Minsk by September 2015

Separate lanes for public transport will appear in Minsk in September 2015, Alexander Kaptyukh, chief of department of passenger transportation of the public institution "Metropolitan Transport and Communications" told reporters today.

"We have identified five areas of the road network in Minsk where we urgently need separate lanes for public transport. By September, there will be dedicated lanes in such streets as Kuntsevshchina - Lobanka, Nemiga, Bobruiskaya, Independence Avenue (near Uruchcha) and Timiryazeva," said Mr Kaptyukh.

He also noted that a separate lane will increase the speed of public transport by about 10 km/h. To date, buses and trolleybuses move around the city with an average speed of 16 km per hour.

Besides designers offer no hide Minsk bus stops in special "pockets." According to them, it will help solve the problem of cars parked near bus stops. Such cars tend to occupy the whole lane. Minsk authorities are working to introduce photographic images of parking violations near bus stops.
