All three Belarusians make it into Wimbledon second round

After Victoria Azarenka and Alexandra Sasnovich, Olga Govortsova, the third Belarusian tennis player, progressed to the second round of Wimbledon.

In the first round the 26-year-old Olga Govortsova (WTA No122) coped with Romanian 24-year-old Andrea Mitu (71), 6:1, 6:1. The match lasted only 51 minutes.

In the second round, Alize Cornet (No27, France) will be Govortsova's opponent.

Alexandra Sasnovich in round 2 will meet 21-year-old Kazakhstani Zarina Diyas (34), who knocked out the experienced 33-year-old Italian Flavia Pennetta (26), 6:3, 2:6, 6:4.

This is the ninth Wimbledon for Govortsova, whose best achievements were second rounds in 2007, 2009 and 2012.

Victoria Azarenka in the next round will take on Belgian Kirsten Flipkens (96). For Victoria, this is the tenth tournament. Her best achievements at Wimbledon were the semifinals in 2011 and 2012.

Sasnovich and Govortsova made their way into the main draw through qualification, after winning all three qualifying matches.

This is the first time since 2012 when three Belarusian tennis players have entered the second round at Wimbledon. Back then, Victoria Azarenka, Olga Govortsova and Anastasia Ekimova overcame round 1.

Max Mirnyi (42) in a duet with his new teammate Łukasz Kubot of Poland (48) will play in the doubles at Wimbledon. In their first match, they face French Adrian Mannarino (308) / Lucas Pouille (358).
