Belarus fall to Spain, miss out on Eurobasket 2015 bronze

Belarusian basketball players lost the match for the bronze medals of Eurobasket 2015 to Spain and took 4th place at the championships in Budapest.

This is the second time the Belarusian has taken 4th place at Eurobasket. Last time Belarusians competed for bronze in Riga in 2009 and also lost against Spain in the third-place tie.

The national team of Belarus took part in the European championship for the fifth time. At the European Championship in Italy in 2007 Anatoly Buyalsky's team took bronze. In Latvia in 2009 they finished fourth.

In Poland in 2011, Belarusians were not able to get into the playoffs (9th place) and in France in 2013, under coach Rimantas Grigas of Lithuania, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing to Turkey. They then won a consolation tournament and settled in 5th place.

The current European Championship is one of the stages of selection for the Olympic Games 2016. Only the champion of the 2015 continental championship will get a direct ticket to Rio de Janeiro.
