Belarus celebrates Border Guards Day

Belarus celebrates Border Guards Day

On May 28, wreaths and flowers from representatives of border services of Belarus were laid in Minsk at the monument in Victory Square.

Belarus is celebrating Border Guards Day. The soldiers in green caps guard about two thousand kilometers of the state border. During WWII, they were the first to resist the might of the enemy. Belarus' borders are considered among the safest and most protected in the world.

Igor Butkevich, First Deputy Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus:
The state border must be guarded round the clock, even on any holidays. Today, most of the personnel are directly at the state border. We think about how to ensure the security of our country, our citizens and how to avoid any problem situations related to the state border.

Celebrations on the occasion of Border Guards Day are being held on May 28 across the country. For example, the traditional holiday in Brest started with flower laying ceremonies at the obelisks and a solemn march.

Valery Shukan, Deputy Head of the Brest Border Group:
Over the past period of this year, we have detained over 400 violators of border legislation of the Republic of Belarus. Some 35 of them are state border violators.
