President Lukashenko signs amnesty bill timed to 70th WWII victory anniversary

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed the law on amnesty in connection with the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which is part of WWII. 

The document releases from criminal punishment more than 8,500 people (including from prison - more than 2,000 people).

Previously, the law was passed and approved by the Belarusian parliament. It shall enter into force on the day of publication, and must be exercised within six months. The document was developed on the initiative and with the personal participation of the head of state.
