Belarus records steady growth in agriculture, construction, trade in January-April 2015

Low efficiency of work of some enterprises, but at the same time steady growth in agriculture, construction and trade – results of Belarus’ socio-economic development in the first quarter of 2015 were voiced by the Belarus government today.

The development of the economy was affected by external factors. Among them is the devaluation of the Russian ruble, falling oil prices and declining demand in the countries that are Belarus' key trading partners.

Therefore, the Government and the National Bank have been gradually implementing measures aiming at macroeconomic stabilization.

According to Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov, export and the search for new markets will play a major role in achieving the positive dynamism of the economic development.

Andrei Kobyakov, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus:
The key factor is export diversification. Exports of goods to our traditional markets (Russia and Ukraine) decreased by 40 and 45%, respectively, in the first quarter. But we increased sales in the markets of Asia, Eastern and North Africa, Central and North America. As a result, we have a positive balance of foreign trade in goods and services of more than $770 million.
