The main day of the main symbols of independence. Belarus is marking Day of State Emblem and Flag. Traditionally, it falls on the second Sunday in May.

The symbols of the Republic were approved by a Presidential Decree in 1995 following a referendum.

Congratulations to fellow citizens were sent by President Alexander Lukashenko.

"Our national symbols embody the sovereignty of the country, its rich history and traditions. The intrinsic value of the State Emblem and the State Flag is shown at the most crucial moments of the life of society, uniting Belarusians, ensuring communication and continuity of generations," the message reads.

Solemn ceremonies are held on May 10 throughout the country. For example, in Minsk's National Flag Square, the celebrations were opened by the youngest citizens of our country.

Dozens of the best young Oktyabrists of Minsk became members of the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization. The Belarusian Republican Youth Union and the Public Association Belaya Rus also welcomed new members.

Ivan Mikhalenko, member of the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization:
It is happiness for me. I am now going to help everyone, listen to everyone, learn and be honest.

Nikolai Gurinovich, World War II veteran:
The state symbols is the biggest attribute of our republic. We admire these attributes, we respect them. And on their basis we bring up our younger generation.
