Belarus, Poland mulling over joint application for Winter Universiade 2021

The Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships is a good reason for a number of foreign sports officials to visit Minsk. On May 1, Minsk welcomed Deputy Minister of Sport of Poland Dorota Idzi and director general of the Physical Education and Sports Department of the Lithuanian Government Edis Urbanavičius.

Belarus' top sports officials Alexander Shamko and Maxim Ryzhenkov met the VIP guests. The visit of the officials was associated not only with the gymnastics championship. The leaders of the sports departments discussed a number of matters of bilateral cooperation.

The Belarusian and Polish sides are currently considering the option of a joint application for the 2021 Winter Universiade.

The similarity of sports infrastructure and training of athletes in the neighboring countries facilitates cooperation in various fields, and exchange of experience will benefit both sides.

Dorota Idzi, Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland:
During events, athletes themselves will decide who is stronger. I hope that very often, Belarusians and Poles will meet each other in the finals. The main thing is a place on the podium. We are not going to argue about the quality.
