Interview with Deputy Head of Belarus' Presidential Administration Igor Buzovsky in "Picture of the World with Yuri Koziyatko"

We will continue the theme of the President's State of the Nation Address with the Deputy Head of Presidential Administration Igor Buzovsky. He is in the studio of "Picture of the World with Yuri Koziyatko."

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Mr Buzovsky, welcome!

Igor Buzovsky:
Good evening!

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Everything is important in the address. But I particularly liked the two thoughts. Firstly, the independence of Belarus. And the fact that the Belarusian manufacturers should be helped. Just as Kazakhstan does. The Belarus president gave us that example. And the fact that our own parade is no less important than that in Moscow. And the fact that even despite Russia is our ally, we can have our own opinion on Ukraine.
This independence and sovereignty was emphasized in the message.
Second. We celebrated yesterday Labor Day and the President clearly and openly said: "All that we can achieve can be done with our own hands, our own labor." Let us begin to work!  I heard you were at a rally on May 1.

Igor Buzovsky:
Due to professional duty, I had to take part in public events. We had to do some physical work, too. That Address before the May 1 holiday emphasized the role of the person, of the idea of labor, working people. We need to achieve everything ourselves and be creative both at home and in the joint ventures with our allied countries.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
2015 is named the Year of Youth. Probably this is not a coincidence?

Igor Buzovsky:
Yes, this idea was supported by the head of state. Today we cannot yet sum everything up. The year is in full swing. Those youth initiatives in the education system, in culture and society as a whole will give results by the end of the year.
Russia's "Skolkovo" came to visit the events of the project "100 ideas for Belarus." Construction crews... Today it is hard to create new working places, especially for students but this initiative is developing. Kids' interest in labor is growing.
Remember also that this is the election year. President elections are due soon. This focus on the Year of Youth is not a coincidence. This aims to show that the youth demonstrates interest in those incentives that the state gives. This should show during the election campaign.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
All of what you said probably helps save the youth in the country! For example, brain drain has decreased. Because there is a Hi-Tech Park, there are companies where smart young people can use their brains.

Igor Buzovsky:
Brain drain is a problem of every state today. In the context of globalization, this is one of the problems for the economy, for the state as a whole. Smart, educated and intelligent people is a treasure.

Today, we stopped this trend. But this threat is not over. The theme of the Bologna process remains open. The openness of the society and stimulation of initiative on the part of the youth will benefit the whole Belarus, which will be then ruled by those who are young today.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
The message from the President differed from the previous ones.  The economy dominated the address?

Igor Buzovsky:
This topic was the core. Our future social policy and the whole life of the country will depend on the processes that we see today in the economy. But from the point of view of my activities I still focused on the ideology of the message. It was very deep. It touched upon international activities and the social sphere and the economy.
How can ideology and the economy go together? If the look at modern forms and methods of organization of economic activities at enterprises and the management in the whole, we will see that there is a trend towards the individual. The priorities of the person are in the foreground, and then goes society. But even the strongest economies in the world say that this model is not working as expected. There are also questions of morality, further development of the country and the state.
Therefore, what I heard in that address was that the head of state talked about the person today and said that the personality is a priority, but this person has to understand that he or she lives in society. Social responsibility of the youth, social responsibility or organizations and political parties, social responsibility or business leaders.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
China's strong economy, you have said about strong economies, is not stalled! It is clear that the economy is supported by an ideology there!

Igor Buzovsky:
Just the same, society is in the first place there. Obtaining a post, you must necessarily think about society. If the state develops and if the economy develops as a whole, you will obtain something from this big pie, too.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
May 9 (Victory Day) is due in one week. Belarus will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory! This has something to do with ideology.  Not economy, but ideology.
In Ukraine, Soviet symbols are about to be banned and the Baltic countries did the same long ago. We have a new symbol - an apple flower, which was proposed by active youth, the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, which you headed many years. Is this a replacement for George Ribbon?

Igor Buzovsky:
The Head of State clearly outlined the subject. Because civil society organizations and even countries began to speculate on it. The Republic of Belarus has its own clear stance on this issue, in relation to the symbols, including St. George ribbon.

We underlined in relation to the St. George ribbon again and again: nothing was banned and there were no sanctions or restrictions against Russia's project.

Our joint projects will also develop. Perhaps St. George's ribbon will be part of our next project. Maybe a public organization, maybe a youth movement or a political party. This does not cause any rejection today, this is part of our history and our military relic. It is part of medals. Therefore, once again, the symbols (and the President said it clearly) will be evolving.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Apple blossom is a great symbol! I fell in love with this boutonniere! This is probably another attempt to confirm our independence?! In people's minds, for example.

Igor Buzovsky:
Not just to confirm independence. We need symbols for any project, for any rally. As well as colors and taste. We chose one symbol to emphasize our attitude to the great victory, the attitude of the organization and Belarus in general. It deserves recognition and respect.   I think that this symbol will be supported.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
The topic of 9 May will continue in the next program. I want to thank you for your answers.
I remind you that today we had Deputy Head of Presidential Administration Igor Buzovsky. Mr Buzovsky, thank you!

Igor Buzovsky:
Thanks for having me!
