Belarus beat Slovenia at 2015 IIHF World Championship

The national ice hockey team of Belarus beat Slovenian opponents 4-2 in the first preliminary match of Group B at the IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic.

Shots: 26-23.
Penalties in minutes: 4-4.

At the beginning of the meeting, neither of the sides threatened each other. Toward the middle of the first period, the teams began to carry out dangerous attacks. In one of them, goalie Kevin Lalande made a couple of brilliant saves rescuing Belarusians after dangerous attempts from Slovenes. 

The first goal was scored by Andrei Stas. However, the joy was short-lived and half a minute later, Slovenie leveled the tie. 

Dave Lewis' charges did not pay attention to the conceded goal and went on attacking with optimism. Finally, their efforts paid off, with Andrei Kostitsyn making it 2:1 after winning a challenge in the crease.

In the second third, Belarusians increased pressure and netted another time in less than 4 minutes. It was Alexei Kalyuzhny who capitalized on the Slovenian goalie's mistake. 

After this success, the national team of Belarus controlled the game in the course of ten minutes but still failed to net more.  

In the final stanza, Belarusians defended much more and Slovenians upped the pace trying to return into the game. Their persistence paid off 9 minutes before the buzzer, with Žiga Pance making it 3:2. 

However, At the very end of the match, Belarusians were one man down but Alexander Kitarov intercepted the puck 20 seconds before the final siren and sent it into the empty net for a 4:2 score.

Belarus take on Slovakia on May 3. The latter earlier managed to beat Denmark only in the shoot-shoot 4:3.
