Sendai Garden in Minsk. Where is it situated and where does its name derive from?

There are a great number of parks, paths and boulevards in Minsk. You can go for a walk along the Svisloch river bank, spend a weekend in Gorky Park, make an appointment on Lenina Street boulevard and have a rest in Mikhailovsky Garden.

One more interesting place appeared in Minsk in 2002 – Sendai Park.

Let’ s check whether Minsk residents know where this park is situated.

Minsk residents:
No, I don’t know.

I have no idea.

We don’t know.

Probably I know where it is situated. It’s not far from Myasnikova Square? Am I right?

I guess it’s in Myasnikova Square.

Sendai Park is situated not far from here, near the Belarusian Theater of Musical Comedy.

Small and cozy Sendai Park is situated between Myasnokiva Street and Nyamiha Street, not far from the Belarusian National Music Theater.

Though its territory is not large, there are many interesting things on it.

There is a bronze sculpture, which represents all characters of the ancient theater. The front is made of ornamental masks.

In the Sendai Park, you can find a unique bamboo bridge. Let’s ask Minsk residents whether they know about the park’s name origin.

Minsk residents:
Sendai Park? I heard about it, but don’t know exactly.

Obviously it was named in honor of a Chinese figure.

Sendai is a twin town of Minsk as far as I know.

It was named in honor of the Japanese city Sendai. I’ve been there.

The park was named in honor of the Japanese city Sendai – the twin town of Minsk. It was the 35th anniversary from the establishing of twinning relations between the cities in 2009.

A lot of Japanese plants were planted in the park in the anniversary year. Also, there was set up a clock which shows Minsk and Sendai time simultaneously.

Go for a walk in the city more often and get acquainted with new places and their history.
