Darya Domracheva's victories inspire children's biathlon in Belarus

Darya Domracheva is gaining energy in Austria before another interesting race - the Race of Champions, Belarusian Biathlon Federation Anatoly Stromsky will tell us about the successes and hopes of Belarusian shooting skiers. He is in the studio of "Picture of the World" with Yuri Koziyatko.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Anatoly, hello!

Anatoly Stromsky, general secretary of the Belarusian Federation of Biathlon:
Good afternoon!

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
The cause for our conversation is another great success of Dasha Domracheva - the Big Crystal Globe. Did it come as a surprise?

Anatoly Stromsky:
In fact, we planned to conquer the Crystal Globe at the beginning of the season. Thank God that everything went well. Of course, the busy season ended, both physically, morally and psychologically.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Darya Domracheva returned from the Olympics with three gold medals already and the Hero of Belarus title! Next week she's going to come to Minsk. Will there be any additional gifts or incentives apart from a bouquet of flowers?

Anatoly Stromsky:
I am not in position to answer the question. The President congratulated her on this undoubted victory.

To win the World Cup one needs to keep shape during the season but given the fact that the season lasts six months, it's very hard.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
So this achievement can make it to the annals of Belarusian sport?

Anatoly Stromsky:
There is no doubt!

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
After Paramygina?

Anatoly Stromsky:
In biathlon, it is the second such success. As far as I know, it is the third in history. Anton Kushnir - in freestyle. He also won the Big Crystal Globe. It is a great honor.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Dasha Domracheva has won so many medals! I do not know who owns the medal record in biathlon. But perhaps, she is the only athlete in Belarus who has so many gold medals!

Anatoly Stromsky:
In the world, Magdalena Forsberg holds a record. She has 42 wins at the World Cup. Dasha has 28 to date, so there is something to aspire.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
But Dasha is sportswoman No.1 in Belarus, so to speak?

Anatoly Stromsky:
I think so.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
This is not only because she the Hero of Belarus? (Smiles)

Anatoly Stromsky:
Especially because she has three gold medals, which is very worthy.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Well, there is Dasha, and there is also Nadya Skardino, who had a birthday two days ago. Skardino is a good shooter, a sniper, but she is not that fast.  In the men's team, the situation is bad. What is the problem?

Anatoly Stromsky:
I would still say that despite the absence of medals, this season became one of the most successful! Men showed a very good result. 11th place in the Nations Cup. Liadov and Chepelin did well. Liadov was four times in the top 20 at the World Championship. Behind him were such famous athletes as Bjørndalen and others. It speaks for itself. Our expectations were met.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
This is for you, for the federation. And for those who are following biathlon closely. Mass audience and fans require champions! When will we get male champions?

Anatoly Stromsky:
We hope that they will do better and not only get into the top 20, but also start to win medals.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
You mentioned two famous biathletes.  Magdalena Forsberg and Magadlena Neuner. And our Dasha. Recently, the Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon were held in Belarus and another Belarusian Dasha (Blashko) won the gold medal. Can I assume that she will replace Domracheva?

Anatoly Stromsky:
There is not only Dasha. Other girls are great! Dinara Alimbekova. We have good specialists and they will help win all possible medals, but a lot depends on girls and boys.  There are promising guys: Viktor Krivko and Maxim Vorobei. Maybe they did not win medals because they competed in front of their own stands and this was psychologically difficult since they were waiting for medals.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Biathlon is a sport of developed countries. Can we say that Belarus is in this sense moving to the club of developed countries?

Anatoly Stromsky:
Well, of course!

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
As in hockey, by the way.

Anatoly Stromsky:
After the renovation of Raubichi, which was appreciated by the IBU at a very high level, this became one of the best complexes in the world.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Only the stands are small. Two and a half thousand fans is not enough for the senior World Cup.

Anatoly Stromsky:
Yes, I can explain it. It makes no sense to build stationary stands because they will be empty for most of the time. And to make prefabricated stands for 10,000 or 15,000 spectators is not a problem.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Is it possible for Belarus to host a senior World or European Biathlon Championships?

Anatoly Stromsky:
Of course, the European Championships are easier to host. The decision to host a particular world championship is taken by the IBU Congress, which takes place every two years. The next congress we held in 2016 and we can bid for hosting the championship in 2020-2021.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Are we really going to bid?

Anatoly Stromsky:
It will be possible. We have time to discuss the pros and cons, because it is necessary to look what countries will bid and how real this is. I think we can host a World Cup. Hopefully, we will receive the right to host it and we will do it at the highest level.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
Domracheva is going to partake in another commercial tournament - the Race of Champions. This year it will be held in Tyumen although it is usually held in Moscow. Why was it moved?

Anatoly Stromsky:
I am not ready to answer this question yet. Yes, I know that it was moved to Tyumen from 3 to 6 April.

Yuri Koziyatko, host of "Picture of the World":
It this an opportunity to make money?

Anatoly Stromsky:
Yes, for athletes, this is a way to make money, but not only. After all, it contributes to the promotion of biathlon. After all Dasha's victories, kids just want to go to sports schools and do this sport. It is very important for us because we want to raise a healthy nation.

Anatoly Stromsky:
Thank you, Anatoly!
