Alexander Lukashenko: Belarus and the Orenburg region should work out new ways of cooperation

Belarus and the Orenburg region (Russia) should work out new ways of cooperation. This was discussed at the March 23 meeting between President Alexander Lukashenko and Russian region Governor Yuri Berg.

The Orenburg region is our long-time trading partner of Belarus. Nevertheless, the scope of mutual interests should be expanded. The current visit should become a new page of cooperation.

The guests will stay in our country for one days. The plans include the meeting in the Government, visits to factories and talks of the working group on cooperation.

Wreaths at the Victory Monument, anthems of the two countries, solemn march of the guard of honor and a moment of silence. It is to honor the memory of all those who died during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

Dialogue between Belarus and the Orenburg region now has been long. Alexander Lukashenko visited this region of Russia in 1999. The delegation from Orenburg has several times come to Belarus.

The current visit should give an impetus to the restoration of the positive dynamics of relations, said the head of state. After all, the trade turnover in 2014 decreased twice. It is compared with the recent one billion dollars.

Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus President:
We deliver to your region a variety of machinery, equipment, importing goods necessary for the operation of our businesses. There are two assembly plants producing Belarusian equipment in your region - harvesters by the association Gomselmash and tractors of Minsk Tractor Works. I think that we should not limit ourselves to these projects. It is necessary to work out new ways of cooperation, work towards greater use of industrial, scientific, technological and human potential of our sides. We are ready to provide our partners with the whole spectrum of our machinery. I am absolutely convinced that during visits to the machine-building enterprises, you will see that our machinery is competitive.
One of the most important points of contact is cooperation in the agricultural sector. This industry is developing rapidly in Belarus and in the Orenburg region. We call promising cooperation in the construction and R&D. Belarusian machinery, equipment, technology, design and engineering services, construction materials - we are ready to work with you in all these areas.

Yuri Berg is sure that Orenburg has something to offer Belarus, too.

Yuri Berg, Governor of the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation:
The region is unusual - 124,000 square kilometers and 126 nationalities. Some 10,000 Belarusians live there. We have a national village and have a good Belarusian museum.

Our country's cooperation with the Russian regions is a priority of the Belarusian-Russian cooperation. The most fruitful relations have been established with the Tyumen, Moscow and Smolensk regions.

The distance is not a barrier to cooperation.

Yuri Berg, Governor of the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation:
At the last meeting with Vladimir Putin in May 2014, I suggested making Orenburg the capital the Eurasian state. He smiled and said: "Nursultan Nazarbayev also wants the same. I think that Alexander Lukashenko wants it, too."

Belarusians can help the region in the creation of machine-tractor complexes.

Natalia Levinson, Vice-Governor - Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation:
Our idea is the creation of such mechanized systems and purchase more than 100 items of agricultural areas. The establishment of such complexes will allow quicker harvesting.

By the way, the Belarusian automobile plant has something to offer, too. The delegation of Orenburg could see this personally on March 23. They studied and the demand and supply noting that the machinery is of high quality.

Piotr Maslov, chairman of an agricultural enterprise of the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation:
The tractor Belarus is without exaggeration a world famous model. We have always associated the word Belarus with a trusty wheeled tractor.

Sergey Koronchik, marketing director of Minsk Automobile Plant:
In 2014, total shipments of our trucks to the region stood at more than $5 million. Accordingly, this year our goal is to not only preserve this volume but also increase it. In addition to trucks, we are ready to provide integrated products.

Or take urban transport. This area also has potential, said Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov. Very soon Belarusian trolleybuses and trams will be able to travel on the roads of the Orenburg region.

Andrei Kobyakov, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus:
We have good opportunities when it comes to passenger buses. Diesel or natural gas - we are ready for either option. Your every whim... Electric transport. We know that you use trolleybuses.

One of the proposals of the governor of the Orenburg region is the establishment of sister-city relations with the Belarusian region.

After all, these are steps aim at dialogue, both economic and cultural.

Yuri Berg, Governor of the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation:
I suggested that the President determine with which region we would become friends officially. I think this will be beneficial for people who live in our territories. Economy is economy but people-to-people relations.
