Belarus and the Orenburg region should work out new ways of cooperation and work towards greater use of industrial, scientific, technological and human resources. This was discussed at the March 23 meeting between President Alexander Lukashenko and Russian region Governor Yuri Berg.
The Orenburg region is our long-time trading partner. The basis of exports are tractors, agricultural and construction machinery. In 2013, the turnover exceeded $1 billion. However, in 2014 this figure reduced by half. And according to the head of state, such a situation requires prompt action to restore the positive dynamism of bilateral relations.
Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus President:
We deliver to your region a variety of machinery, equipment, importing goods necessary for the operation of our businesses. The region has two assembly facilities to produce Belarusian machines, reapers of the Production Association Gomselmash and MTZ. I think that we should not reduced ourselves to these projects. It is necessary to work out new ways of cooperation, work towards greater use of industrial, scientific, technological and human potential of our sides. We are ready to provide our partners with the whole spectrum of our machinery. I am sure that during a visit to the machine-building enterprises, you make sure that this machinery is competitive.
One of the most important points of contact is cooperation in the agricultural sector. This industry is developing rapidly in Belarus and in the Orenburg region. We call promising cooperation in the construction and R&D. Belarusian machinery, equipment, technology, design and engineering services, construction materials - we are ready to work with you in all these areas.
Yuri Berg, Governor of the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation:
The region is unusual. 124 sq. kilometers, 126 nationalities. 10,000 Belarusians live there. We have a national village, a Belarusian village and a good museum.Belarusian society leads an active lifestyle. This museum is open, so many people come there, very kind, decent people who educate and cherish the traditions of the Belarusian people. It is very nice to talk with them.
Yuri Berg, together with representatives of the delegation, laid a wreath at the monument in Victory Square. This ceremony is a particularly significant ritual in the year of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory in Great Patriotic War. The guests paid tribute to the victims of that terrible war with a minute of silence. Anthems of the two countries played.
The visit of the delegation of the Orenburg region will last two days. Representatives of the Russian region will visit a number of enterprises, as well as communicate with the business community of the Belarus-Russia Union State. It is expected that the negotiations will result in the signing of an action plan for the development of cooperation between Belarus and the Orenburg region for the next three years.
