On February 19, Alexander Lukashenko visited the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus. Among the priorities of the Armed Forces in the coming years are the increasing of military capabilities as well as upgrading, technical modernization, and the intelligent optimization of the combat component.

The President touched upon the role of officer corps in the armed forces with regard to modern teaching methods of warfare and social protection of servicemen.

During the visit to the Ministry of Defense, the President was given a Kalashnikov rifle.

Andrei Ravkov, Defense Minister of the Republic of Belarus:
In honor of the visit to the Ministry of Defense, let me present you this trusty weapon, which is today used in most countries of the world. It will soon turn 60. It should be associated with the Armed Forces, loyal and reliable.

Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus President:
Good weapon. Thank you. You need to know: I will never draw you into adventures that are rash and unnecessary for the country. But if we have to defend our land and stand back to back, shoulder to shoulder, you can be sure that you will see me there in the forefront.
