Belarus' President visits renovated Raubichi ski complex

"Business card of Belarusian sport" at the highest international standards. On February 13, Alexander Lukashenko visited the Raubichi ski complex and familiarized himself with the renewed Olympic training center for winter sports.

Next week the sports complex "Raubichi" will host the Youth/Junior Biathlon World Championship. These competitions will be the first for the updated National Olympic training center for winter sports. The stands are now located closer to the track, so that viewers can see not only the start and finish, but also penalty loops and shooting.

Alexander Shamko, Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus:
We have improved the track. Its width is now six meters. Instead of five and a half kilometers we made seven and a half. The Complex Raubichi is one of the best in Europe. This is confirmed by representatives of the International Biathlon Federation.

The track has become not only longer, but also safer. Remote lighting of the complex operates in several modes. Surveillance cameras can see almost every meter. According to Olympic standards, the number of target systems was increased to 38. There are a spare shooting range and a huge indoor shooting range - the only one in Europe. Judges in the hall will now feel more comfortable. There has appeared a system of underground passages. New guest houses have been built.

Alexander Lukashenko:
We need results. Domracheva cannot pull us out of where we are alone.

In 1996, the International Biathlon Union awarded "Raubichi" category A by issuing a license for hosting of higher level competitions without any exceptions.

Alexander Lukashenko:
Sit down and optimize it all! If you want to have a good salary, it should not be due to the increase of training price for athletes or for people who come here to do. People will not go here.
Every day, there must be thousands of people here! Thousands! We see what beautiful tracks for skiers and biathletes we have here. Freestyle? Please, here you can do acrobatics.  Everything must be done, let them do sport. No Austrias, Australias, Chiles or Perus and Argentinas! Belarus should be home for their training!

This requirement is applicable to other sports facilities. For example, Minsk Arena. First, it earns money and, secondly, gives a lot of opportunities to engage in outdoor activities - skating and biking.

Already on the track, Alexander Lukashenko was joined by head coach of the youth biathlon team of Belarus and former a member of the national team - Alexander Syman as well as director of the National Olympic Training Center for winter sports Raubichi Andrei Astashevich, who is also known as a hockey player of the Belarus President's Team.

Biathlon in Belarus is one of the most popular sports. Not only 3 gold medals of Darya Domracheva at the Olympics in Sochi, but also her fresh victories inspired many young hearts to engage in biathlon.

Despite many awards in biathlon at youth and junior levels, Belarusian medalists rarely turned into good professional senior athletes.

Alexander Lukashenko:
Hopes are great. But once they mature - where are those expectations?

For the comfort of athletes, a wellness center, guest houses and a hotel are located right next to the ski track.

Alexander Shamko, Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus:
"Raubichi" is not only for training and biathlon skiers. We are able to carry out training sessions for the national team in shooting and table tennis. In addition, we are planning this year to provide training grounds for other national teams (basketball, volleyball and handball).
