Minsk Zoo

The Minsk Zoo was opened in 1984. To date about 2,000 inhabitants live in the Zoo. It is home to about 400 species of animals.

Waterbirds inhabit the natural creeks of the Svisloch River all the year round.

Two exhibitions and dolphinarium are open here, too.

In 2013 the zoo celebrated its 29th anniversary and invited everyone to ride horses and enjoy clown shows and a concert.

Since 2013 was the year of snake reticulated python Cleopatra was allowed to leave the cage so that visitors could touch it. The snake was measured and this information was written in the book of records.

An exhibition and sale of rodents was located nearby and anyone could buy a small pet.

Olga Kolmakova, head of the Education Department of the Minsk Zoo:
The zoo began with a little stork named Zhurka. Then he was joined by wild boar Piggy, who lived in the zoo for a long time. One of the first inhabitants were camel Khan and little aurochs named Gai.

Now our zoo has spread out. There are a lot of different exotic animals. These are jaguars, pumas, capybara (the largest rodent in the world).
