Belarus bids for 2019 European Indoor Athletics Championships

President of the European Athletics Association Hansjörg Wirz highly appreciated the sports infrastructure of the Belarusian capital - Minsk Arena and a new athletics arena. The main purpose of his visit to our country was to examine the conditions and opportunities for the winter European Indoor Athletics Championships in 2019.

The European Athletics Association unites fifty national associations.

Hansjörg Wirz, President of the European Athletics Association:
Belarus is a large part of the athletics family. I was here six years ago and is very impressed with how everything has changed in Minsk. I'm glad to see so many sports facilities of a high level. It's already clear that there are conditions for a global competition. We are ready to help and to say what else should be done to host the championship here in 2019.

Andrei Shorets, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee:
Minsk is ready to host competition the highest level, the highest rank. Created infrastructure meets all modern requirements. Therefore, if the Federation makes a corresponding decision, Minsk will host the championship and will hold it at a very high level.
