Mobile communication now available inside Minsk subway tunnels

Now you can use mobile phones even when you are inside Minsk subway tunnels. The first section where the service is available is a small section of the blue line of the subway - between the stations Malinaŭka and Piatroŭščyna. This required 3,500 meters of cable. The signal level is almost the same as on the platform or on the street. It is planned that in the near future, mobile service will be available throughout the metro.

Chairman of Minsk City Executive Committee Andrei Shorets and Belgrade Mayor Siniša Mali signed an agreement on holding Days of Minsk in Belgrade. The event is scheduled to take place in 2017. A delegation from the Serbian capital is now on an official visit in Minsk. On June 29, the two mayors held talks and a forum of business circles. The forum was attended by 75 Belarusian and 25 Serbian enterprises.

Can you pay by credit cards in Belarus after redenomination?

Belarus is preparing for the currency redenomination, which will take place on July 1. The banking system and stores are still working on some technical details that may arise when switching to the new currency, which ISO code will be BYN. The previous BYR 10,000 will now equal BYN 1. The banking system is ready for the forthcoming redenomination. On July 1 at 8 am, new banknotes and coins will start to be delivered to ATMs, offices, and shops.  By July 1st, new banknotes will reach all corners of the country.

After a series of terrorist attacks the Istanbul airport was closed. Now the interrupted air service has been restored. The Belarusian airline did not fly to Istanbul today but the planned flight of Turkish Airlines was on schedule. The CTV crew talked with the passengers from Istanbul who arrived after the attack.

Belarus to produce apple nano pectin

The Minsk region plans to increase the share of innovative products by three times compared to the current output in the coming five years. An interesting project for the production of nano-products is being worked out at the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park. A domestic enterprise will become its resident. A high-tech product – nano-pectin (used in the food industry and able to remove radionuclides from the human body) - will be made of apples according to a unique Israeli technology, which was exclusively given to the Belarusian enterprise.

More than 300 trade union members discussed job saving, labor laws and improvement of working conditions in Minsk June 29. The Federation of Trade Unions raised all these issues at the fifth All-Belarusian People's Assembly. Now the main task of trade unions is to bring the key points of the development strategy of the country to every Belarusian. The Federation will also work out a clear algorithm according to which the federation will be working in the next five years.

Belarus banking system ready for currency redenomination, National Bank says

The banking system of Belarus is ready for the forthcoming redenomination, said the National Bank June 29. All the banks of Belarus have the necessary funds to operate in conditions of the redenomination, during its first days. On 1 July at 8 am, new money will be delivered to ATMs, cash registers and retail facilities. Now the Bank is working to identify any possible abnormal situations and technical details that may arise when setting up equipment and cash registers in retail chains.

Belarusian Aliaksandr Grynkevich-Sudnik became a four-time world champion in classic powerlifting. The IPF RAW/Classic World Powerlifting Championships held US Killeen brought a gold medal to the athlete from Baranovichi, Aliaksandr Grynkevich-Sudnik. At the start of the global forum, Alexander beat everyone in the squat. In the third attempt in this event, he managed to cope with the weight of 257.5 kg.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has summed up another stage of the parliamentary election campaign. Belarus finished the formation of the election commissions. In 110 constituencies, 1,430 people were appointed, said head of the CEC Lidia Yermoshina. The highest competition among candidates was in the Brest and Grodno regions. More than half of the commission members are representatives of political parties and public associations. Moreover, women make up 60% of election commission members.

Belarus resumes Priorix vaccines despite one vaccinee's death

Belarus has resumed the use of Priorix vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella. It has been used since 2014 and its purchases are pre-planned. The Belgian vaccine passed quality control in June 2016 and meets all requirements according to test results. In May, immediately after vaccination, a six-year girl died on her mother's hands in a Grodno clinic. Doctors fought for the life of the child about 40 minutes but in vain.

The number of victims of the terrorist attack in the Ataturk airport in Istanbul reached 36. About 200 are wounded. Some are in critical condition. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry said that no Belarusian citizens were among the dead and injured. According to recent reports, three explosions were heard at the entrance, exit and the parking lot of the international terminal of the airport the night before. The Government stated that the attack involved three suicide bombers. First, they opened fire with weapons and then detonated an explosive device.

Election programs of candidates for the 2016 parliamentary election will be published in Belarus' print media in late August 2016. The programs will be available in print media of national, regional and city newspapers. Candidates will also be given airtime on Belarusian television and radio. Debates will be organized, with each candidate to be given up to 5 minutes. The participants of the electoral race will purchase print space in newspapers and broadcast on TV and radio channels at the cost of their own money.

BATE goalkeeper Sergei Chernik has officially become the player of the French club AS Nancy. Today he passed the medical examination, and then was presented as Nancy player and signed a contract for three seasons. After promoting to the elite division of AS Nancy started searching for quality players and chose the 28-year-old goalkeeper of Belarus champions FC BATE. After several weeks of difficult negotiations, the parties came to an agreement. Belarus plans to temporarily close the checkpoint Domachevo on the border with Poland to vehicular traffic. This is due to a bad state of the bridge across the Western Bug.  Repairs will soon start at the site. It will take about three months. The movement will be limited not earlier than 24 hours after the notification of the Polish side. The nearest alternative border crossings are Kozlovichi and Varshavsky Most.

Medicines in Belarus will become cheaper. The Belarus President signed a decree that changed the maximum wholesale and retail markups when forming prices. Instead of USD, the base amount will be applied. This will reduce the cost of medicines by more than 2% on average. This measure will increase sales of Belarusian health care products, preserving the break-even operation of pharmacies.

On June 26, Minsk hosted the first championship on dumplings eating. Especially for the competition the organizers cooked more than 500 potato balls with meat. They were baked according to ancient Belarusian recipes in a village oven.  To do this, 250 kilos of potatoes, 50kg of meat and 40kg onions were needed. Taking part in the championship were 13 gourmets.

Minsk is finishing preparations for 3 July Independence Day celebrations. The busiest places of the city are already decorated with festive elements. Another interesting fact is that this year's military parade will end with a mass number in which vocal and dance groups will take part. Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season, started June 27. Olga Govortsova, ranked 113th in the world rankings, was the first of the Belarusian tennis players to have begun the Wimbledon campaign. In the opening round of the singles tournament the Belarusian lost to the Spanish tennis player Lara Arruabarrena (87), 2:6, 6:1, 6:8.  That was Olga Govortsova's 10th Wimbledon. Last year, she managed to reach the 4th round, which is her best result at Grand Slam tournaments.

Belarus has already won 134 Olympic licenses in 25 sports. The President of Belarus was reported on the preparation of the national team for the Rio Olympics. There should be no "tourists" in the national team. The order of the Head of State is not to put exorbitant pressure on athletes.

On June 27, a rehearsal of the Independence Day air parade was held by the Minsk garrison. 44 aircraft rose into the sky to train ahead of the July 3 Independence Day of Belarus. Taking part in the rehearsal were the helicopters Mi-2, Mi-8 and Mi-24. When it comes to planes, there were MiG-29, Su-25 and military-transport aircraft IL-76 and AN-26. Russian aircraft will also partake in the parade. By the way, traffic was not blocked on the ground during the rehearsal.
