Moldova celebrates its Independence Day on the 27th of August. Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Nicolae Timofti on the national holiday. Minsk subway trains to arrive with less intervals starting from 27th of August

The intervals between arrivals of trains in Minsk subway will be reduced. Thus, starting from the 27th of August, people will wait for 5 minutes instead of 6 at the first line. On Sundays, the interval will be 5.5 minutes instead of 6.5. At the second line, the intervals will decrease by 1 minute. On Saturdays, the waiting time will be 5 minutes. On Sundays, it will be 6 minutes. During weekdays, the intervals will be reduced to 2 minutes in the rush hours.

Less than five candidates for one seat in Parliament

The number of candidates for the parliamentary position has reduced to 489 people. According to the Central Election Commission, 27 people dropped out of the parliamentary race. Thus, less than five candidates will compete for each seat in the House of Representatives. Initially, the number of registered candidates amounted to 521. Another three candidates were registered by the court order, one more candidate was registered by the decision of the district election commission.

21 Belarusian athletes to compete at the Rio Paralympics

One more time, Brazil will gather athletes from all over the world. At the beginning of September, the 15th Summer Paralympic Games will be held in Rio. These Paralympics might become the largest in the history of the Games. On August 26, in Minsk, a farewell ceremony was held for the Belarusian Paralympic team. The ceremony took place in the National Olympic Committee. Several dozens of athletes who will represent Belarus at the Paralympics attended the ceremony.

A residential compound near the Belarusian embassy opened in Kiev. The opening ceremony was attended by Vladimir Makei, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. Vladimir Makei mentioned that this new compound shows the intention to continue the collaboration between Kiev and Minsk. “There aren’t any unsolved problems between our countries”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. Moreover, he added that Belarus would participate in the resolution of the conflict in the Donbass.

Belarusian Ilya Ivashka (181st place in the world ranking) has got a second victory in the US Open qualifying. In a duel against American tennis player Ryan Shane occupying the 652nd place in the ATP rankings Ivashka won in straight sets with the same score 6:3. At the start of the qualification Ilya Ivashka confidently took over Argentinian Nicolas Kicker (134), 6:3, 6:2. Now Ilya will play against the German opponent, Matthias Bachinger (514). Belarus Trade Ministry officially renamed Antimonopoly Regulation Ministry

Belarus' Trade Ministry officially changes its name. From September 8, according to the decree of the President, the ministry will be renamed the Ministry of Antitrust and Trade. The document also makes changes to symbols of the institution: its emblem and flag.   Recall that in early June, President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on the establishment of a single competition authority.  The new agency is created on the basis of the Ministry of Trade, with the pricing policy department of the Ministry of Economy also becoming its part.

Elections to upper chamber of Belarus parliament start August 25

The election of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly began in Belarus on August 25. The election to the upper chamber of the parliament lasts to 13 September inclusive. This date was not chosen accidentally. Elections must complete no later than 35 days before the end of powers of the Council of the Republic of the current convocation.  The Central Election Commission plans to register the elected senators by 30 September.

Registration of candidates for Council of the Republic ends

On August 24, registration of candidates to the Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of the parliament, ended in Belarus.  The election of senators will be held from August 25 to September 13, at the meetings of regional and Minsk City Council of Deputies. Before the election, the Central Election Commission gives an opinion on the legality of their nomination. The Council of the Republic - the chamber of territorial representation - comprises 64 people.

From August 25, drivers on the road will have to mark themselves better.  On the eve of the new academic year, even in the daytime you must move with dipped headlights.  There will also be increased control over how drivers and pedestrians observe traffic rules near schools and kindergartens.
