Minsk Tractor Works Garden Square opens in Minsk

The MTZ Garden Square and the renovated Palace of Culture opened in Minsk on May 26. In celebration of the great jubilee of the plant employees planted 70 symbolic thujas, and the garden square was divided into several thematic zones. 70% of rooms in Belarusian health resorts has been sold. A day in a Belarusian health resort this year costs about BYR 400,000. A trip of 12 days costs about BYR 6 million. All in all, 72 health resorts for adults are working in Belarus, with 10 more for children and 17 for students. The cheapest option is in the Borisov district, where a bed in a 5-room guest house costs only BYR 200,000. Luxurious apartments near Grodno cost about BYR 2.5 million a day.

Belarus welcomes mutual exchange of military personnel by Ukraine and Russia

The Foreign Ministry of Belarus welcomes the steps taken between Russia and Ukraine on the way to the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The sides have exchanged military personnel. Thus, one of the issues that was an obstacle to progress towards a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is now off the agenda. The Foreign Ministry expresses hope that the event will be positive for the whole negotiation process.

Belarus is preparing for the most important political event of the year - the All-Belarusian People's Assembly. The logo of the national congress has already been approved. In the recent history of the country, such congress will be held for the fifth time and, as always, it will develop a social and economic course for the next five years. The large-scale meeting, which will bring together 2,500 people - representatives of all branches of government, business, science, culture and other spheres, will take place in Minsk on June 22-23.

EBRD to finance repair of treatment facilities in Orsha, Polotsk and Lida

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) intends to finance the repair of treatment facilities in Orsha, Polotsk and Lida. The relevant documents will be signed before the end of 2016. The bank is already implementing similar projects for the renovation of water canals in Vitebsk, Slonim and Baranovichi. The main objective of such support is to ensure financial stability and improve the tariff policy of water management farms.

The Belarus government has adopted new rules for foreign workers. The concept “qualified worker” has been introduced in the law on migration. Specific requirements have been listed for such specialists. For them, special work permission will be issued for two years. Independence Day parade rehearsals due in Minsk 25 and 28 June

Legendary T-34s and the new generation of military equipment will be presented at the Independence Day parade in Minsk, Belarus, due on July 3, 2016. The military are preparing for the parade at the military airfield Lipki. Another rehearsal was held there May 26. All in all, about 160 units will partake in the parade, including armored vehicles, self-propelled weapons and multiple rocket launchers. They will be joined by WWII retro machinery. The length of the column will be about two kilometers.

Belarus to amend counter-terrorism laws

Belarus is going to amend counter-terrorism laws. The corresponding bill was adopted on May 25 by members of the House of Representatives. The amendments concern measures to prevent the legalization of proceeds from crime, terrorist financing and proliferation of mass destruction weapons. The need for the adoption of the amendments is due to the improvement of the legal framework regarding the detection and suppression of terrorist organizations, as well as the protection of the population against acts of terrorism.

Drivers in Belarus must have headlights on even during daytime from May 25 to June 5

From May 25, drivers in Belarus, even in daytime, must have headlights on. This is a demand of traffic police, which is part of the nationwide campaign "Attention: Children!", which will run until June 5.  Motorists violating this paragraph will receive a warning or a fine of up to 2 base units.  The requirement about the lights during daytime is due to the start of the summer holidays and need to ensure children's safety on the roads. Inspectors of traffic police will be on duty near schools, cinemas and parks located near roadways.

Yesterday, the CTV Channel aired the Audience Choice Award ceremony of the project Two Stars. The winners were determined by a popular vote, according to which the main prize went to the presenter Olga Burlakova and singer Alexei Khlestov. This duo sang with another seven couples taking part in the show. Relatives and friends, colleagues of the first Hero of Belarus Vladimir Karvat commemorated the hero pilot in the Brest region. The pilot heroically died in a plane crash 20 years ago.   In 1996, the pilot was carrying out a training flight. In the sky, the plane caught fire and went out of control. Vladimir Karvat sacrificed his life to save dozens of people: the pilot went on to control the blazing fighter from two settlements of the Baranovichi district. Experts claim that the pilot was holding the levers until the last second.

Belarus celebrates Day of Slavic Literature and Culture. It is marked in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who in the late 9th century created a system of Old Church Slavonic alphabet and language. All Orthodox churches are holding festive worship today in memory of the Saints. Minsk hosted a big religious procession. Believers divided into two columns that went to the meeting point at Niamiha from two Minsk's churches - the Holy Spirit Cathedral and the St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral. The procession was followed by a prayer service.

Unemployment insurance may appear in Belarus

Belarusian trade unions are in favor of innovations in the country's legislation: they would like to introduce insurance for unemployment or bankruptcy of the employer.    Increased competition in the labor market requires additional guarantees for workers. Mechanisms and conditions for new types of insurance for Belarus were developed in conjunction with specialists from various ministries, the National Academy of Sciences, and the deputies of the State Control Committee. The developments will now be forwarded to the government for discussion.

Normandy Four approves OSCE police mission in Donbass

Leaders of the Normandy Four have supported the creation of the OSCE police mission in Donbass. The heads of state agreed on this in a telephone conversation.  In addition, the leaders reiterated the importance of the full execution of the Minsk agreements. Also, a special council for the preparation of local elections in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions will be operating in the east of Ukraine. For now, fighting has resumed in the Donbass, with the OSCE noting violations of ceasefire every day. However, there are no casualties among civilians.

Brest Meshkov wins Belarus handball championship for eighth time

HC Meshkov Brest for the eighth time became the champion of Belarus. Coach Sergei Bebeshko's Meshkov Brest won at home against their opponents from SKA 27:26 (13:14) in the third match of the final series for gold medals. In the two previous games, the Brest side were also stronger, 32:30 and 33:26. In the bronze series, Gomel prevailed over Grodno's Kronon 40:24, 34:31 and 31:26. The top scorer of the handball season in Belarus was Andrei Yashchenko from Gomel.
